29 July 2010 - Program Update
PASS will provide you with answers and implementable practices to fight against product fraud and will spend little time repeating basic information or vague theory.
One such working system which will be presented at PASS is NPLEx. The National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) is a real-time electronic logging system used by pharmacies and law enforcement to track sales of over-the-counter (OTC) cold and allergy medications containing precursors to the illegal drug, methamphetamine.
Every day, millions of people in the USA rely on effective OTC cold and allergy medications for their intended use. A small percentage of people buy these same medications and use them to make methamphetamine. NPLEx helps stop this illegal practice.
NPLEx has system design components and best practices which may lead to ideas for better track and trace systems for other products.
